Euphoria And New Format In EURO 2020

The European Football Federation, UEFA has officially announced a host for the EURO 2020 after a UEFA executive committee meeting in Switzerland. This edition will feel special because it coincides with 60 years of the tournament. Therefore, UEFA will use the new format in EURO 2020, where the match from the group phase until the final will be held in 12 different places in various corners of Eopa. This Format differs from previous ones that take place in one or two host countries. Later, every country that escapes and so hosts, will at least play two matches in the enclosure. Meanwhile, the UEFA opening game chose the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, to be held on 12 June 2020. The final will take place at Wembley Stadium, London, on July 12, 2020.

Why did UEFA change the host format of the European Cup 2020? It was a form of celebration, precisely 60 years after the first championship was held in 1960. European Cup 2020 will be a special tournament because UEFA gives the opportunity for football connoisseurs in continental Europe to feel the euphoria to host. It could be a spectacular soccer feast for the European region. The special Format of the European Cup 2020 makes UEFA a few adjustments. In addition, the UEFA Nations League also makes the qualifying system wider. For the first time as well, the host country will not necessarily qualify automatically to the European Cup. This is because there are 12 countries that will organize the matches from the group phase until the final European Cup 2020 match.

The 2020 European Cup qualifying round was divided into 10 groups, consisting of five and six countries in each group. There are a Total of 55 European countries participating in the qualification phase. The top two clubs from each group will receive a ticket to follow the final round of the 2020 European Cup. That is, 20 countries will pass directly to the championship. There is no more play-off round of the country that ranks third in the tournament. UEFA Nations League produced 16 group champions. The entire champion of the group gained the assurance of following the round play-offs of tickets to the European Cup 2020 finals if it failed to occupy the position of the first two in the qualifying phase. If the UEFA Nations League Group champion can get a direct ticket through the qualifying phase, their position in the play-off round will be replaced by other countries that are ranked afterwards in the UEFA Nations League group phase.

For the first time, the European Cup was not only held in one or two countries, but in some European countries. There are a total of 12 cities from various parts of Europe that are designated host from the group phase to the semifinals. For the semifinals and final will be held in London. These countries from the beginning were asked to propose proposals to host. For group phase and round of 16, Brussels (Belgium), Copenhagen (Denmark), Dublin (Republic of Ireland), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Bukarest (Romania), Glasgow (Scotland), and Bilbao (Spain) won the auction. In addition, there are group phase matches held in Saint Petersburg (Russia), Rome (Italy), Munich (Germany), and Baku (Azerbaijan). The four cities were also believed to have staged the quarterfinals.

As usual qualifications that would later give birth to 20 teams consisting of Champions and group runners-up, the UEFA will also look for candidates from the European Cup 2020 through the UEFA Nations League. UEFA Nations League is a new inter-country competition that has four levels of the competition, Liga A as the top, followed by Liga B, Liga C, and Liga D. Each league will have four best teams that advance to the semifinals. It will be held final to determine the four champions of each league and they will complete the 24-team quota in the European Cup. If the league champions in the UEFA Nations League have ensured the European Cup qualification, the allowance will be given to the runners-up of each subsequent league.
